Algae is an inexpensive and easily accessible material.

We tested four types of filamentous algae:

• Microspora

• Oedogonium

• Mougeotia

• Zygnema

Algae gets its nutrients directly from the water. Growth and reproduction are dependent on the type and amount of nutrients in the water, particularly nitrogen, phosphorus, fertilizer, animal waste. It grows in warmer environments and better with CO2 in the air. We used a medium consisting of Alga-Gro, a universal algal concentrate, and distilled water.
